Music Director
Stefan Sanders is the Music Director of the Central Texas Philharmonic, where he brings vibrant leadership, an expansive artistic vision, and a deep commitment to strengthening the region’s musical culture. Now in his eighth season, he has been instrumental in shaping the orchestra’s identity through innovative programming, community engagement, and passionate performances. He resides in Georgetown, Texas.
Recognized nationally and internationally for his versatility, Sanders served as an Assistant Conductor of the New York Philharmonic (2017–2020) and as Associate and Resident Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (2014–2018), where he led more than 200 performances. In 2016, he was one of five conductors selected for the prestigious Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview, presented by the League of American Orchestras and the Nashville Symphony.
As a guest conductor, Sanders maintains an active schedule with orchestras across the U.S. and abroad. His engagements include appearances with the Colorado Symphony, Austin Symphony, Austin Opera, Rochester Philharmonic, Naples Philharmonic, and San Antonio Symphony, as well as international performances in Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador, Poland, and South Korea. These engagements reflect both his musical depth and ability to connect with diverse audiences.
Before turning to conducting, Sanders enjoyed a distinguished career as a trombonist, performing with major ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, and the Buffalo Philharmonic, where he was a member of the brass section for seven seasons. His recording of Eric Ewazen’s Concerto for Bass Trombone with the Czech Philharmonic is featured on Albany Records and remains a celebrated contribution to the low brass repertoire.
